CommScope to enable 5G and CBRS at AT&T Center

As part of the agreement, the firm will install the CommScope’s ERA All-Digital DAS

CommScope said it has been selected by Spurs Sports & Entertainment (SS&E) to provide mobile connectivity at AT&T Center, home of the San Antonio Spurs basketball team.

Under the terms of the deal, CommScope will provide its in-building wireless solutions to deliver dedicated 4G, 5G and private wireless network access.

Specifically, the firm will install the CommScope’s ERA All-Digital DAS, which it says will enable the AT&T Center to increase its mobile broadband wireless capacity to provide an augmented fan experience, such as immersive content, paperless entry, cashless payments and in-seat ordering, via 5G.

“All these capabilities require venues to provide fast and reliable wireless networks. CommScope is honored to provide our ERA DAS platform and CBRS solutions for the Spurs to enable these innovative offerings for their fans at AT&T Center,” said Darla Braun, SVP of sales and business development at CommScope.

SS&E also selected CommScope CBRS to provide the AT&T Center with what it said is its first private wireless network, dedicated to operations and enhanced security around the arena.

Last month, infrastructure provider ExteNet Systems announced that it had been selected to deploy a private wireless network at the AT&T Center. The deployment is part of a partnership between ExteNet and Spurs Sports & Entertainment.

ExteNet said its private wireless network transforms venue connectivity and the fan experience by providing on-site experiences extending from Point of Sales (POS) to improved security and beyond.

In January, ExteNet Systems had announced a partnership with SS&E to deliver a new 5G cellular solution to the AT&T Center. SS&E has awarded ExteNet Systems a long-term agreement to bring a new 5G neutral-host network into the arena that will serve the 18,000 fans who attend home games for the NBA team San Antonio Spurs, the annual San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, and the many concerts and entertainment events that fill the arena throughout the year.
