Saudi telco STC to deploy smart waste management technology

STC will use NB-IoT SIMs for smart waste management

Saudi telco STC has announced a partnership with Sensoneo with the aim of providing customers in Saudi Arabia with smart waste management technology.

The smart waste management technology uses smart ultrasonic sensors embedded with STC NB-IoT SIMs to monitor waste levels and pick up the status and real-time temperature of bins.

With GPS location technology, real-time data is instantly sent to Sensoneo software to optimize collection routes, pick-up frequencies, and vehicle loads. The solution also includes advanced analytics to make wise strategic decisions regarding waste, Sensoneo said.

“We are excited to partner with Sensoneo, a leader in waste management. By leveraging STC IoT capabilities, we are bringing digital transformation to life in ways that everyday people can experience. The result will enable customers in Saudi Arabia to manage their waste efficiently, lower their environmental footprint, and improve the quality of services,” said Saud Alsheraihi, Products and Solutons VP at STC.

Sensoneo noted that data-driven waste management has been developed in response to the current challenges in the waste management industry, including a lack of efficiency, as well as addressing the environmental impact. The digital approach drives optimization and lowers the environmental footprint by avoiding unnecessary routing and enabling dynamic/on-demand waste collection, the firm said.

“We recognize the expertise of STC in the field of communication, networks and the Internet of Things (IoT), and we are looking forward to partnering with them to drive the deployment of smart waste management in the region,” said Martin Basila, CEO of Sensoneo.

Sensoneo’s smart waste solution combines in-house produced smart sensors that monitor waste in real-time with advanced tracking and monitoring equipment and software providing digital transformation and data-driven decision making which results in transparent waste streams, optimization of waste collection routes, frequencies, and vehicle loads, and the introduction of incentive programs dedicated to decreasing waste production. The company also develops and provides customized solutions that digitalize, optimize, and automate the complex logistics of post-consumer recycling and processing of different waste streams.

Sensoneo’s smart waste solution has been installed in more than 50 countries globally.

The company is headquartered in Bratislava, Slovakia, and in March 2021 opened a JV branch in Arizona.
