Swiss operator Sunrise sets up for new IoT sales push

Swiss operator Sunrise Communications is using an “out-of-the-box” IoT back-end sales and management platform from Poland-based IT provider Comarch Telecommunications to underpin its IoT business. The Comarch bundle, also comprising IoT devices, will enable Sunrise to “store, sell, connect, monitor, and manage” its IoT estate, the companies said.

The Comarch software, bundled together in its IoT Connect Platform, is integrated into Sunrise’s overall OSS/BSS enterprise infrastructure. The first stage of the project has involved the full integration with the Sunrise IT environment and network, said Comarch, and was launched within four months of the pair signing the contact.

Comarch said Sunrise will be able to enter the “fast-growing IoT market rapidly and smoothly”, with a view to generate new revenues from new customer segments. The Comarch IoT Connect platform will provide SIM ordering, SIM/eSIM card management, service provisioning, pre-billing, and real-time monitoring and alarm functionalities. It will also introduce various data analytics functions, including collecting, aggregating, and visualizing data from IoT devices.

The system is working in the Sunrise cloud and is integrated with the company’s current CRM, billing, and data warehouse platforms. The implementation, which continues, will support IoT connectivity management, as well as related product management, sales, billing, and analytics. Comarch said Sunrise will be able to include partners and customers in the platform, and publish quotes and agreements automatically.

Alexander Lehrmann, director new business development and innovation at Sunrise, said: “We chose Comarch because of its experience and flexibility in adapting the product to our current and future needs, which minimizes involvement on our side. With the platform, we can create tailored offerings for each customer within minutes.

“With such flexibility, a powerful system, a proactive approach and an organisational culture very similar to ours, Comarch is the perfect partner for our IoT project. Comarch’s strong expertise in designing IoT products  – both software and devices – means the company will be able to support us in any future endeavours as our IoT business grows.”

Jacek Lonc, head of telco sales and business strategy at Comarch, said: “The system will help Sunrise realise its strategy focused strongly on innovation. The ability to deliver innovative products and services perfectly matching the preferences of individual and B2B customers has always made Sunrise stand out competitively in the domestic telecom market. Expanding their portfolio with IoT services is another move in that direction.”
