Semtech adds Laird to its design partner program for LoRa-based solutions

Semtech says that Laird Connectivity’s engineering services capabilities will enable the acceleration of LoRa-based IoT solutions

Semtech has added Laird Connectivity, a global provider of wireless connectivity solutions, to its Semtech Design Partner Program.

The program, which was launched two months ago, focuses on the creation and deployment of LoRa-based IoT solutions by connecting customers with designers.

“Semtech’s Design Partner Program brings unique value to customers by linking them directly with experts on LoRa Technology like Laird,” said Matt Lubeley, sales director of engineering services at Laird. “Laird’s standard LoRa-based solutions can be coupled with our comprehensive engineering services and certification capabilities to offer customers the solution they need, from a standalone node to a complete IoT network. Collaborating with Semtech means we will have a system in place to easily find and work with customers directly to create and deploy innovative LoRa-based solutions to market even faster.”

Semtech highlighted that Laird’s engineering services capabilities, coupled with Laird’s growing Sentrius LPWAN ecosystem of LoRa-based products, enables the acceleration of LoRa-based IoT solutions.

Laird’s engineering services offer customizations of standard product offerings as well as full end-to-end product development.

“The continued growth of the Semtech Design Partner Program is indicative of the continued success of LoRa Technology as a proven leader for the IoT,” said Vivek Mohan, director of IoT in Semtech’s wireless and sensing products group. “Collaboration with Laird and our Design Partner Program will help organizations create scalable, easy-to-deploy LoRa-based IoT solutions and networks faster and more efficiently, simplifying IoT connectivity for enterprises around the globe.”

Laird’s engineering services offer customizations of standard product offerings as well as full end-to-end product development.

Semtech’s LoRa devices and wireless radio frequency technology is a long-range, low-power solution for IoT that gives telecom companies, IoT application makers and system integrators the feature set necessary to deploy interoperable IoT networks, gateways, sensors, module products, and IoT services.

In September, Semtech extended its internet of things collaboration with Chinese firm Alibaba Cloud, targeting rapid adoption of IoT solutions across multiple vertical markets and new use cases in China.

The new use cases include logistics tracking, air quality, food safety compliance, and smoke detecting safety.

Alibaba Cloud is working to promote LoRa Technology in China as part of its IoT efforts, which include solutions in verticals including smart meters, smart cities, smart manufacturing and smart agriculture. The company has introduced the LoRa-based Airship Balloon, which connects sensors from 20 meters underground to 40,000 meters above ground.

Using Semtech’s LoRa technology, Alibaba Cloud plans to support an extensive ecosystem created by LoRa-based sensors.
