Atos, Google Cloud open AI lab in London

Atos said it aims to open new AI labs in Paris and Dallas

French digital transformation firm Atos and Google Cloud have launched Atos’ first artificial intelligence lab, under a global partnership between the two companies.

The Atos AI lab, which is based in London, will be available to businesses and public-sector organizations across Europe to utilize AI technologies and to define and design use cases relevant to their needs.

Atos said that the AI Lab will enable it to enrich its data analytics suite, Codex Industry Solutions, with Google AI and data technologies to provide customers with industry-specific solutions. It will also help build an ecosystem of highly-skilled AI workers in London and across Europe, the French firm said.

“The UK is leading the way when it comes to expertise in artificial intelligence, and the new Atos labs will help to develop this exciting area of technology further. Through our modern industrial strategy, we’re putting AI at the forefront of our plans to make the U.K. the best place in the world to start and grow a digital business,” said Margot James, U.K. minister for digital and the creative industries.

“The opening of this first AI Lab marks a new era in enterprise transformation and opportunity. In combining the advanced capabilities of Atos and Google Cloud AI technology, organizations will have access to compelling solutions acting as a springboard to growth in an evolving, digitally focused marketplace,” said Adrian Gregory, CEO of Atos UK & Ireland.

Paul Emsley-Martin, head of SI partnerships at Google Cloud, said that the new AI labs from Atos will be a valuable resource for European businesses wanting to take advantage of Google Cloud AI capabilities.

“This is a great next step in our partnership with Atos, and we are delighted to continue working with Atos to bring Google Cloud AI, infrastructure, machine learning and collaboration tools to enterprises worldwide,” he said.

In April of 2018, Atos and Google Cloud had inked a deal to form a global partnership to deliver secure hybrid cloud, machine learning, and collaboration solutions to organizations. Atos named Google Cloud its preferred public cloud provider. The Atos AI lab is opening as a component of this partnership with Google Cloud to address the digital transformation needs of enterprise customers. Additionally, Atos plans to open two additional AI labs located in Paris, France and Dallas, US.
