Olivetti targets manufacturers and smart cities

The Italian company recently launched new smart factory solutions for manufacturers

Olivetti has unveiled its new smart cities portfolio which includes smart solutions for the environment, crowd control and smart lighting segments.

The suite of products includes:

  • Olivetti Smart Clean Air:  a solution consisting of an intelligent system for monitoring environmental pollution and air purification, featuring a multimedia device Air Pollution Abatement (APA) connected with the Olivetti Cloud IoT platform.
  • Olivetti City Forecast: a service for crowd control fully compliant with privacy laws and legal frameworks, able to estimate crowd densities in a given location and their relative movements.
  • Olivetti Smart Lighting: a cloud solution offering remote management and optimization of public lighting systems bringing savings in terms of energy resources and public health.

In addition to the smart cities focus, Olivetti has also released the Smart Factory 4.0 solution designed for manufacturers and users of industrial machinery. The Italian firm said the new turnkey solution is able to eliminate the complexity of integrating together machines, sensors and IT applications.

“The solution consists of an IoT gateway with Olivetti M2M smart connectivity and an on-board application that provides not only plug&play installation on over 5,000 industrial machines, but also real-time monitoring of the operating parameters of each individual machine,” the company said in a release.

Fortinet unveils new offering for the IIoT space

In related news, U.S. cybersecurity specialist Fortinet has unveiled its new FortiGuard industrial security service, extending the Fortinet security fabric visibility, control and protection into the industrial internet of things (IIoT) field.

FortiGuard ISS protects the most widely-used Industrial Control System (ICS) and Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) devices and applications. The new service provides vulnerability protection, deep visibility and granular control over ICS and SCADA systems and is backed by real-time threat intelligence updates. Fortinet said that this new offering enables organizations to restrict access and minimize the attack surface of their critical IIoT infrastructures.
