ZTE unveils NB-IoT intelligent energy management system

The NB-IoT system will allow will allow firms to reduce energy consumption

Chinese vendor ZTE Corporation has announced the release of its narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) intelligent energy management system globally.

The new system, which has been installed as a pilot project in Zhangjiang intelligent park, was showcased and demonstrated during Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai late last month. The NB-IoT Intelligent Energy Management System leverages IoT technologies for energy-saving and emission reduction management, the vendor said.

“With ZTE’s NB-IoT intelligent energy management system, enterprises can leverage its energy-saving control function to effectively reduce energy consumption during research and production,” the company said. “With the use of NB-IoT technologies, this system comes with lower investment costs and higher rate of returns, featuring wider coverage, shorter construction lead time and ease of operations. A built-in chip module developed by ZTE also makes remote control and strategy customization feasible, enabling users and enterprise management to easily implement personalized management for each device, and minimize energy consumption.”

This new NB-IoT system can also reduce power consumption. With the installation of 50 energy-saving control terminals in a typical wireless base station test environment, up to 50,000 kilowatts of electricity can be saved every month through the centralized automatic shutdown of the terminals outside of office hours, the Chinese firm said.

With the deployment of nationwide NB-IoT network by local operators, terminals supported by the intelligent energy management system can be managed remotely, enabling more equipment to achieve nationwide reduction of energy consumption.

Since the finalization of the NB-IoT standards in June 2016, ZTE claims to be the first vendor to rollout demonstration of NB-IoT proof of concept (POC) networks. Last November, ZTE launched an end-to-end NB-IoT system at the World Internet Conference in Wuzhen, China.

Guangdong iBosst launches smart logistics express in China

Also in China, local company Guangdong iBosst launched a “smart logistics express,” a project dedicated to building a smart logistics express cable rail system covering the urban and rural areas of China.

In May this year, the first 15-km-long “smart express” was completed in Xin’an, Huazhou City, in Guangdong Province. Based on low-altitude static cable rails, the express system carries unmanned shuttle robots loaded with small amount of goods within 100 kilograms. It allows the robots to make turns and shunt, making it possible to deliver the parcels to their destinations rapidly, with low energy consumption and low cost.
